N ew year, new you? If you are starting off 2019 with a New Year’s resolution and you’re finding it a bit hard to stay on track, no worries! Here are 6 tips to help you totally change your life and achieve your goals this year.
First things first, your goals should be exactly what you want. Not what you think you are capable of, what you think you should be doing, or what other people want you to do. Your goals are for YOU, so aim high and don’t be shy about it. Because if it’s not exactly what you want, it’s easy to lose interest and quit before you get there.
Do you want to lose weight? Land that new job? Hit a six-figure sales goal? Start a family? Buy your dream house? Learn something new? No matter what you are aiming for this year or how bad you want it, we understand that it can be difficult to get motivated and stick with it.
Remember, there is no right or wrong way to do something, as long as you can get it done. Do everything at your own pace and don’t expect things to change overnight. Start by visualizing your goals, creating a plan, and getting things done! We have created 6 tips to help you along the way so you can achieve all your goals.
1. Create Good Habits
After visualizing your goals and creating a plan, you need to create good habits, otherwise, you’ll fall down the rabbit hole. There are certain habits you can weave into your daily routine that will make a huge difference in achieving your goals. These are known as keystone habits.
Keystone habits act as a foundation in which good habits can grow. A good keystone habit might be making time for yourself every morning (then you can create habits like making yourself a healthy breakfast or getting in an early morning gym session like you planned). Other keystone habits might be getting to bed earlier (to make time for a good night’s rest so you can achieve your goals) or doing yoga every day to relieve stress.
Pro Tip: Change is energizing, and by inviting keystone habits into your daily routine, it will empower you to make better choices and create better habits.
2. Have a Positive Mindset & Believe in Yourself
We are our own worst enemies. While having a positive mindset may sound like an easy thing to do, it can actually be one of the most difficult things to maintain, especially when you are full of doubt. Get into that positive mindset you need to get to where you need to go.
Negative talk and negative thoughts are self-defeating, so it’s time to kick them to the curb and believe in yourself! Don’t think you’re going to hit that sales goal? Don’t think you are going to win over that new client? If you are thinking those things, then you likely won’t. If you yourself think your goals are achievable, then you’ll work harder to reach them. So give yourself that motivation.
Pro Tip: Worrying too much about what you are trying to accomplish often gets in the way of what you are trying to accomplish. Just go for it!
3. Find Motivation
What is the deeper reason for your goal? Visualize yourself there and find a way to achieve it. You might find it beneficial to set smaller goals in order to reach your bigger one, and that’s okay. There is no shame in starting small and working your way towards your bigger goal. After all, it’s all about progress, no matter how long it takes or how slow it may seem.
Surrounding yourself with people who support you can also give you the motivation you need to keep going and reaching your goals. On the other hand, unsupportive people can affect you and your progress in a negative way, so steer clear of the haters and hang with the Life Changers.
Pro Tip: Use incentives if you need to. After all, you should be rewarding yourself along the way.
4. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
People tend to be more productive after a good night’s sleep, so give it a shot! Try scheduling your sleep time or going to bed earlier in order to get a good night’s rest. This will also allow you to get up in the morning and start your day off right!
A good night’s rest could be all the motivation you need to begin your day with a healthy meal or a trip to the gym.
Pro Tip: It can be easy to push yourself too hard when you are working towards something you really want. Remember that sleep and rest are just as important.
5. Have Gratitude
Just like it’s hard to have a positive mindset, it can be easy to forget to have gratitude, especially if you lack confidence. While you may not think so, a large portion of our thoughts can be negative, fear-based thoughts.
Even if all you think you have are problems or roadblocks in your way, you should be grateful for them, because you never know, one day they could lead you to something great. You can also learn and grow from your struggles, which is another reason to be grateful for them. They can push you to achieve your goals.
6. Be Accountable
Breaking your year-long goals down into more manageable pieces will make it easier to hold yourself accountable and celebrate your achievements, even the small ones.
If you have trouble holding yourself accountable for things, no worries. Try downloading a few apps to keep you on track! There are many user-friendly apps you can download to help you track your progress towards your personal and professional goals using real-time data.
Use apps like MyFitnessPal to track your calories, Seven – 7 Minute Workout for seven minutes of high-intensity workouts each day for seven months and Google Keep to help you stay organized. You can also use apps that are already on your phone like calendars, notes, reminders, health, and more.
In order to reach your goals, make sure to aim high, start low, celebrate all the wins (even the small ones), and most importantly, KEEP GOING! Don’t give up on your goals and don’t give up on yourself. Follow our 6 tips and you’ll be on your way to totally changing your life and achieving your goals by year-end.
