About Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne was founded in 1989 by Ruby Mahara and was the first Club in America to transition from boys only, now serving boys and girls. It originally started with about 100 members, and currently serves around 2,270 members. The Club serves children ages 6 to 18 during after school hours, focusing on academic success, good character, and healthy lifestyles. They aim to have 100% of their students graduate from high school and pursue careers that will provide them a lifetime of success.
One of the career-based programs is Project Blueprint, which focuses on hands-on learning geared towards skilled trades such as building and construction. Other programs that are offered focus on building essential self-identity characteristics, such as Passport to Manhood and SMART Girls Brilliant Women.
The Club also offers help with homework and tutoring opportunities, as well as health and wellness plans for the mind, body, and soul. There are also opportunities to enhance relationships with local law enforcement through the Blue Bucket Brigade program. There are also opportunities to hone essential leadership skills through the Torch Club and the Youth of the Year program.
