Do Total Life Essential Oils use GMO ingredients?
Our oils are sourced straight from Mother Nature, assuring purity and quality. All TLEO blends are sourced without GMO botanicals.
What testing is done on Total Life Essential Oils to ensure integrity?
Total Life Essential Oils compositions are validated via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to ensure their molecular makeup. TLEO takes additional steps in testing for no presence of microbes, heavy metals, and herbicides.
Where are Total Life Essential Oils manufactured?
The TLEO brand is manufactured and bottled in a CPMG-certified facility that also has FDA registration.
Are essential oils stronger than the plants and herbs they come from?
Yes. Essential oils are a highly concentrated form of their natal plant or herb. For example, one drop of peppermint essential oil is the equivalent of roughly 28 cups of peppermint tea.
Besides diffusing them, how should I use my essential oils?
Essential oils are wonderful for use in bath water and in luxuriously steamy showers, in homemade, “green” household cleaners, in laundry, on linens – and so much more! Essential oils can be applied topically to the surface of the skin to promote a wide spectrum of sensations, from a sense of calm to feelings of invigoration. Total Life Changes will continue to offer up an abundance of ideas on how to get the most out of your Total Life Essential Oils and enliven the experience as you Honor the Journey. Honor the Connection. Honor the Source.
What is a nitrogen flush and why does the Total Life Essential Oils brand use it in the bottling process?
Each amber glass bottle (used to protect the oil’s integrity) of Total Life Essential Oils is packaged with an exclusive sealing method to remove all oxygen, prevent degradation, and extend longevity. The nitrogen flush used eliminates all oxygen in the bottle, which helps prevent oxidation and prolongs the potency of the essential oil.
What is photosensitivity and are there any oils that may be photosensitive?
Photosensitivity is an atypical reaction when skin is exposed to UV radiation from the sun or a tanning bed. Citrus essential oils have a compound called furanocoumarins that increases the effect of UV sensitivity, which sometimes results in a noticeable skin irritation. The Total Life Essential Oils collection offers citrus oils (Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit) that should not be applied directly to the skin and should not be used topically when entering direct sunlight. The best way to enjoy the benefits of the citrus essential oils is to diffuse them, apply a few drops to linens or bath water, or add to homemade household cleaners.
How can I tell if I have a sensitivity to an essential oil?
While rare, some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to certain essential oils. To determine whether you are allergic to an oil, try a small drop of oil on the soft side of the wrist. Let it sit for a few minutes. If the skin’s surface becomes irritated, itchy, or if a hive develops, you are most likely allergic to that particular oil. To alleviate the discomfort, apply a carrier oil, whole milk, or vegetable oil. Wipe off with a towel and wash with soap and warm water.
What if I get essential oil in my eyes?
Always avoid the eye area when using essential oils. Should you accidentally get essential oil in your eye, immediately and thoroughly flush with clean, warm water. If stinging and pain persist, seek medical attention.
Can essential oils be used during pregnancy?
While essential oils are generally considered safe to use during pregnancy, we always recommend you consult your physician or health care professional about using essential oils while pregnant.
Can my children use essential oils?
We recommend you first discuss this with your child’s health care professional. The use of essential oils is generally regarded as safe for children. Use a diffuser to imbue the essential oils’ uplifting aromas to a room where kids study or relax.
Can I use essential oils for my pets?
While essential oils are generally regarded as safe to use with pets, it is important to note animals are much more sensitive to essential oils. We recommend you first consult your veterinarian.
How do I dilute essential oils; what are carrier oils?
TLEO Fractionated Coconut Oil is produced to pair perfectly with all TLEO scents. Our exclusive FCO is 100% pure Cocos nucifera oil, and it is integral to your experience when using oils topically. As a pure carrier oil, it won’t inhibit your joy when using Total Life Essential Oils. A carrier oil should merely be a vehicle to dilute the essential oils and help with the absorption and assimilation of the naturally occurring compounds within them. The rule of thumb is one drop of essential oil to two drops of a carrier oil. However, when using some of the stronger oils, such as peppermint, tea tree, or rosemary, it may be helpful to use one drop of the essential oil to three or four drops of carrier oil.
Why Fractionated Coconut Oil?
This is the most widely accepted and preferred carrier oil. TLEO Fractionated Coconut Oil comes from the coconut fruit using a cold press extraction. It is a 100% pure, refined coconut oil – the refining process allows the oil to maintain a liquid state, unlike unrefined coconut oil, which can harden to a waxy state and would need to be liquified before use. If a carrier oil is not refined, its compounds can interfere with or reduce the impact of the star ingredient: the essential oils themselves. If you don’t have it FCO on hand, grapeseed oil or jojoba oil may be substituted. However, these options may not work as effectively as the FCO. To maximize shelf life, store carrier oils in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.
How should Total Life Essential Oils be stored when not in use?
The best way to store oils is at room temperature (72 F/23 C), out of direct sunlight, and with the bottles upright. Additionally, make sure the cap is tightly closed to avoid excess exposure to oxygen and protect the oil’s integrity.
What if essential oils are exposed to heat or sunlight for a length of time?
Essential oils are meant to be taken along with us for use during daily activities. These days, it’s common for temperatures to exceed 100 F at certain times of the year. If the essential oil bottles are not exposed to direct sunlight, the oil’s potency should not be compromised. Just make sure to keep them in a purse, pocket, or storage compartment when out and about, and always keep the lid nice and tight to avoid excess exposure to oxygen and/or leakage.
What if my order is left at the door and exposed to extreme temperatures?
If your order is left at the door and it is hot or cold outside, the most important thing is that the package isn’t open, exposing the oils to direct sunlight. Exposure to heat and or cold for a short time should not compromise the oils.
How long will essential oils last?
Most essential oils have a shelf life of 18 to 24 months if they are stored at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Total Life Essential Oils has gone one step further to ensure our oils stay fresh – we apply a nitrogen “blanket” during the bottling process. This eliminates excess oxygen from inside the bottle and prevents oxidation and degradation. After use, always make sure the cap is sealed tight.
